Sun-Oct 3, 10AM How to Lead a Conversation Between People who Disagree (TED)
ZOOM MEETING
Scott Hersberger In a world deeply divided, how do we have hard conversations with nuance, curiosity, respect? Veteran reporter Eve Pearlman introduces "dialogue journalism": a project where journalists go to the heart of social and political divides to support discussions between people who disagree. See what happened when a group that would have never otherwise met -- 25 liberals from California and 25 conservatives from Alabama -- gathered to talk about contentious issues. "Real connection across difference: this is a salve that our democracy sorely needs," Pearlman says. [click]

Beverly Seese “It's a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.” “Gratitude is one of the most powerful human emotions. Once expressed, it changes attitude, brightens outlook, and broadens our perspective.”

Stephen Ewbank Anjali Kumar went looking for God and ended up finding something else entirely. In an uplifting, funny talk about our shared humanity, she takes us on a spiritual pilgrimage to meet witches in New York, a shaman in Peru, an infamous "healer" in Brazil and others, sharing an important lesson: what binds us together is far stronger than what separates us, and our differences are not insurmountable.
Sun-Nov 28, 10AM Correction: Ours is a Liberal Religion, Not a “Covenantal” One;
[Video of Rev. Dr. Todd Ekloff sermon]
Beverly Seese A few years ago, the leadership of the Unitarian Universalist Association initiated a plan to change its bylaws so that, instead of being a service organization, its member congregations would have to agree to a covenant that they would periodically renew. But the organization’s proposal was never put before voting delegates at a General Assembly, as had been their original intention. Instead, as of late, they’ve just started calling ours a “covenantal religion.” Balderdash! Ours has long described itself as a “liberal religion.” In this sermon, I’ll do my best to help prevent this sleight of hand from escaping our attention. Todd Eklof

Sarah Brichford We are celebrating Black History Month in February. Many commercially successful African American vocal artists have cited their upbringing in the church as the foundation for all of their work including secular music. We will briefly consider two such artists: Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye. We will also learn about the origins of the African Methodist Episcopal church which spurred creation of an early American faith community for African Americans and a legacy of concern for social justice.

Sun-Mar 13, 10AM Reiki Healing - Bob Johnson Beverly Seese Tanya Busailah recommended this subject. Bob Johnson is Leo Schifferli's brother in law.
Robert (Bob) Johnson was born and raised in Kokomo, Indiana, and now resides just outside Peru on the Wabash River with his wife Joan. Bob first heard of Reiki in 1989 while in Muncie, Indiana, while attending college. Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing; Reiki is the ethereal and sacred energy of the universe that sustains all life. With class fees that were out of his budget, it was 16 years before meeting another Reiki teacher again, but this time it was in his budget. After learning Reiki locally the first time, he traveled internationally to seek teachings from the founders of multiple Reiki systems. He studied Usui/Tibetan Reiki and Karuna Reiki directly from William Lee Rand from 2006 to 2008. In 2010 Bob learned the Gendai Reiki Ho system directly from Sensei Hiroshi Doi. Eventually learning the system he currently teaches, Komyo ReikiDo from Sensei Hyakuten Inamoto in 2012. Some of his other passions include beekeeping, native fruit and nut orchards, crystals and gemstones, travel, and dancing to live music. Bob currently teaches the Komyo ReikiDo system of Reiki in Kokomo at Komyo ReikiDo Kokomo located upstairs above the Sunspot Natural Market at 3717 S Reed Rd Kokomo, Indiana. For class info contact Bob at 765-480-5048.
